Gotham Holiday Swing

The Hot Sardines are thrilled to be special guests at the Gotham Holiday Swing at Town Hall.

From Town Hall:

Ringing in the holiday season with style and swing, Gotham Holiday Swing features an all-star cast celebrating music from the ‘20s, ‘30s, and ‘40s, along with stories and poems about New York. Headlined by the irrepressible Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, New York’s leading swing band that recently won a Grammy Award for its music in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, the musical program features hot jazz, irresistible swing and modern interpretations of classic holiday songs rooted in early 20th century traditions, as well as popular songs in the holiday spirit.

Special guests include Garrison Keillor, famed radio host of A Prairie Home Companion; singer-songwriter-actor Nellie McKay, a “vocal chameleon” (New York Times) whose extensive credits range from Brecht’s Threepenny Opera on Broadway and the award-winning off-Broadway hit Old Hats to opening for Lou Reed at Carnegie Hall; the revelatory Hot Sardines, “one of the best jazz bands in New York today” (Forbes) led by the Parisian-born vocalist “Miz Elizabeth” Bongerol and stride piano player Evan “Bibs” Palazzo with featured tap dancer “Fast Eddy” Francisco; pianist-harmonaboardist (melodica: reed and keyboard hybrid) Jon Batiste, who has recently ignited the New York music scene with his uplifting brand of jazz deeply rooted in the musical traditions of his native New Orleans; and Batiste’s Stay Human band, whose mission is to bring the joy of jazz to the masses, transforming each space they play by breaking down barriers between audience and performer; on clarinet or saxophone, and more.
